Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, Ocean Lofts offers quick access to both the City and Coney Island beach. Tasked with designing the interiors, our clients envisioned a high-end aesthetic that embodies Brooklyn’s creative edge and preferred to deviate from wood and metal tones, aiming to create a bold, modern atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from artistic pioneers like Virgil Abloh, Banksy, and Maurizio Cattelan, our concept revolves around a thought-provoking design approach. By combining black and white elements, we created an immersive, gallery-like ambiance that provides the perfect backdrop for curated artworks scattered throughout the public areas.
Upon entry, residents are welcomed into a striking all-black vestibule that complements the building’s black-clad façade. Recessed vertical lights guide visitors toward the interior, revealing a lighter and airier space. A custom-printed floor mat replaces the typical address, featuring the building’s coordinates as a subtle signature. Minimalist corridors display curated artwork, and signage takes the form of gallery plaques, with plug-in pendants providing an illuminating accent that balances utility and artistry.
The lounge invites conversation through provocative installations, including a reimagined Statue of Liberty, while Brooklyn landmarks appear playfully obscured by a recurring balloon motif. Adjacent to it, a dedicated cowork space offers focused nooks, shared workstations, and a community table designed to foster collaboration.
Located in the cellar, the gym features a floor-to-ceiling glass wall with operable louvers that provide privacy without sacrificing natural light from the below-ground courtyard. All-black walls and ceiling create an invigorating atmosphere, while a mural of sneakers hanging from a New York City powerline adds a touch of Brooklyn grit. Color-controllable lighting offers the flexibility to set different moods and workout intensities.
On the rooftop, concealed mechanicals preserve the clean skyline as a dog run, mini-golf course, and outdoor kitchen create a lively, communal retreat.
